For years I was convinced that former NYC Mayor Giuliani's "revitalization"/Disneyfication of the formerly grimy Times Square and everywhere else interesting in NYC had sucked the life out of the city. The protests are encouraging but let's hope the main purpose behind OWS, alleviating economic injustice, doesn't get subverted by foundation grants and the non-profit industrial complex. For now, at least, it seems fairly decentralized and this will increase the chances of effectiveness tenfold.
